A new tattoo ( depending on The size ) will take between 3-4 weeks to heal But May Take Longer.
Use the advice below to give your tattoo the best chance of healing properly.
Keep your tattoo dressing on for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours.
Remove your dressing and wash your hands with antibacterial soap and warm water.
Wash the tattoo with warm soapy water removing all residual ink and bodily fluids.
Pat dry with paper towels NEVER use fabric towels on a fresh tattoo as they harbour bacteria that may cause infection.
With CLEAN HANDS massage a small amount of tattoo aftercare into the tattoo the tattoo area.
A VERY THIN LAYER covering the tattoo is enough, really work it into the skin, you are massaging the muscle as well as the skin.
Aftercare cream should be applied to the skin at least 3 times per day making sure the tattoo does not dry out and form a scab. If your tattoo is still drying out simply increase the amount of times you wash and cream your tattoo. The key is little but often, too much cream will do more harm than good. (ALWAYS CLEAN THE TATTOO BEFORE APPLYING MORE CREAM)
DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH a new tattoo, tattoos get itchy it is a normal part of the healing process.
DO NOT use sunbeds or sunbathe until your new tattoo is fully healed, the uV lights damage the pigments in the skin and affect the healing process.
DO NOT soak the new tattoo in the sea, swimming pools or saunas, the chemicals, The steam And The Salt will damage the pigments in your skin. Showering is recommended but if you only have a bath, get in, get washed and get out. DO NOT SOAK, this will Also affect the healing process.
We recommend that for the first 3 – 5 nights that you wrap your tattoo overnight as late as possible, ideally last thing At Night before you go to sleep. Wash your tattoo with warm soapy water, pat dry with paper towels, apply a small amount of aftercare cream and wrap with cling film. As soon as you wake up remove the cling film and throw It away, wash your tattoo with warm soapy water, pat dry with paper towels then apply a small amount of aftercare cream. Try to leave your tattoo uncovered where possible and always maintain a constant application of tattoo cream if required.
Always keep your tattoo free from dirt, dust, pet hair or anything else that may affect the healing process. Your new tattoo is an open wound and should be treated with care. Take a few days rest.
If you are having a large tattoo done then it’s probably best to try and get a few days off work to allow your tattoo to heal. Avoid getting sweaty as this will affect the healing of your tattoo ( avoid workouts and the gym for a couple of days to give your tattoo and skin time to recover)
Second Skin
We may apply second skin to your new tattoo, if we do then the aftercare is a little different.
Leave the second skin on for 24 hours, the skin will fill with ink and plasma ( this is normal ).
When it’s time to remove the second skin, with clean hands and running water peel away a corner and slowly start to pull the skin upwards rather than outwards to avoid causing any damage to the skin or new tattoo. Once you have removed the second skin, bin it.
Wash your tattoo with clean hands and soapy water making sure to clean the tattoo properly.
Pat dry with paper towels NEVER use a fabric towel.
If you are reapplying a new sheet of second skin make sure you always cut the skin an inch bigger all round your tattoo so it can adhere to the skin round your tattoo ( this will help To Keep The Skin On And with taking it off again) peel away the base layer and stick to your skin then peel away the outer layer and smooth onto your skin.
You can now leave the second skin on for 4 – 7 days.
Once you have removed your second skin for the last time use the aftercare advice above until your tattoo is fully healed.
